Rom 5:1-5 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom also we have obtained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand; and we exult in hope of the glory of God. 3 And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; 4 and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; 5 and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
Rom 5:11 And not only this, but we also exult in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.
We are justified by Faith
We have Peace with God – the precious possession of peace with God. It’s ease… it’s peace. He’s not on the verge of exploding in anger. He’s not agitated nor frustrated. He is at peace with you. Whereas before there was enmity between us and God, now there is peace. It’s been healed. The breach has been restored. We have found peace in his eyes. (Song 8:10, Eph 2:14-19). To understand the peace we have with God, we must understand the violence of separation through sin. We have been given the ministry of reconciliation. Do we understand the violence necessary to bring about the reconciliation ?
We have access into Grace, by faith
- Grace to stand
- Grace to rejoice in hope of the Glory of God
- Grace to glory in God
Rejoice in hope – hope of the Glory of God – not of our own glory, problems become of a preference centered – man exalting gospel, rather than a cross centered, God exalting gospel. Ultimately the cross centered, God exalting gospel exalts man, but not without the means of the cross. All must embrace the humiliation and death of the cross in order to experience resurrection, none are exempt.
Glory in tribulation – the key is KNOWING. In order to be able to glory in tribulation you have to know that tribulation is all part of a plan to bring you to fulfillment in love.
Tribulation brings on perseverance, perseverance gives you character (Godly character, Kingdom values alive in your heart), Godly character gives birth to hope, real hope is centered on God with patient expectation in His will getting done His way, knowing that the end is always good. This type of hope never disappoints, because it’s rooted in the revelation of God’s love for us. Hope in mercy/love never disappoints because love never disappoints.
Americanism (American Churchianity) and Christianity are almost exact opposites – elaborate
Tribulation –> Perseverance –> Character –> Hope –> not disappointed because of love – fulfilled in love.
Tribulation makes you strong and resilient in heart. Resilient in heart causes you to be conformed to the image of Christ, the kingdom values are formed within. When this happens you have proper perspective and you can hope in all things. When tribulations come it should be a tip off that you are being conformed to the image of Christ and the end is fulfillment in love.
TRIBULATION – Thlipsis – From G2346; pressure (literally or figuratively): – afflicted, (-tion), anguish, burdened, persecution, tribulation, trouble.
Mat 13:19-21 “When anyone hears the word of the kingdom, and does not understand it, then the wicked one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is he who received seed by the wayside. 20 “But he who received the seed on stony places, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; 21 “yet he has no root in himself, but endures only for a while. For when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles.
Mat 24:9 – 13 “Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake. 10 “And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another. 11 “Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. 12 “And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. 13 “But he who endures to the end shall be saved.
Jas 1:3-4 knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. 4 And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
Jas 1:9-12 But the brother of humble circumstances is to glory in his high position; 10 and the rich man is to glory in his humiliation, because like flowering grass he will pass away. 11 For the sun rises with a scorching wind and withers the grass; and its flower falls off and the beauty of its appearance is destroyed; so too the rich man in the midst of his pursuits will fade away. 12 Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.
1Pe 4:14 If you are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are you, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. On their part He is blasphemed, but on your part He is glorified.
2Ti 3:12 Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.
CONFORMED TO THE IMAGE OF CHRIST
Rom 8:29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.
Php 3:10 that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death,
Php 3:20-21 For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself.
Gal 2:19-21 “For I through the law died to the law that I might live to God. 20 “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. 21 “I do not set aside the grace of God; for if righteousness comes through the law, then Christ died in vain.”
NOT CONFORMED TO THE WORLD
Rom 12:1-2 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
1Pe 1:14-16 as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; 15 but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16 because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”
