Archives For Daniel

Daniel 9Daniel chapter 9 is a critical chapter in understanding God’s plan at the end of the age. This chapter takes place near the end of Daniel’s life. In it Daniel makes intercession for the sin of Israel and asks the Lord to have mercy and restore Israel. A major key to understanding Daniel 9 is recognizing that Daniel had been reading Jeremiah’s prophecies which served as an impetus for his intercessions. In this blog we’ll take a brief look at Jeremiah 25 to get a better understanding of what Daniel may have been thinking when He prayed for Jerusalem’s restoration. Continue Reading…

20130814-115146.jpgWhen Daniel shows up in Babylon he’s sixteen and a stranger in a strange land. During his young life he had seen Judah in its worst of times. As early as he could remember he’d heard stories of God’s impending judgment coming to Judah. The threat of the Babylonians had been very real for the last several years and now they had sieged Jerusalem, fettered the king, and taken many precious articles from the temple of God. Not to mention they had taken Daniel and many of his friends, young people of the aristocracy of Judah, captive to Babylon. The nightmare had become reality. Continue Reading…

daniel-study-picOver the last week as I have been studying Daniel, God has highlighted a few things I haven’t noticed before. I’m impressed by Daniel’s incredible boldness in the face of great intimidation to faithfully declare the word of the Lord. He was a young man in the most threatening of circumstances and proved to be a faithful witness. I believe His situation mirrors the circumstances the church is facing right now. The question is: will the Church be a faithful witness, like Daniel, in the face of great intimidation and the threat of suffering?

book-of-danielOne of the challenges in understanding the story line of Daniel is the chronology of the book. Because the chapters are not laid out in a chronological order it’s difficult to understand the flow of events. The book is actually put together thematically, in two distinct parts: 1) Life in Babylon 2) Prophetic Visions. The time frame of these sections overlap  one another. For instance Chapter 6 takes places near the end of Daniel’s life, whereas Chapter 7 takes place nearly 20 years earlier.

Another challenge is the mention of multiple kings whom Daniel served. If you don’t know the times these kings reigned it can be very difficult to understand the order of events since all the time frames in the book reference the reign of one of these kings. But, if you understand who these kings are and when they reigned you can fairly easily identify the timeline of the book. In this blog I’m going to give a very simple overview of the book of Daniel and help you organize it chronologically so that you can understand it a little more clearly. Continue Reading…

danielfastLast week I got an email from Mike Bickle inviting me along with other leaders to join him in a 21-day Daniel fast in preparation for a Daniel Seminar he will be teaching at the end of the month. In the last few days Mike has put out a couple videos and an outline that explains in detail what’s on his heart regarding this fast and specifics of how to go about seeking the Lord in fasting and prayer. I want to encourage you to check those resources out.

When I got his email I was on vacation in Florida. I have to admit I was in more of a feasting mode than a fasting mode. But as I read the invitation my heart was immediately moved to go for it. I emailed our leadership team and there was unanimous agreement that we should participate and call our whole community to it. Continue Reading…
